Groundbreaking for new Boardman surgery center

BOARDMAN, Ohio –

Dismal weather on Wednesday did not dampen the enthusiasm at a groundbreaking ceremony for a new surgery center in Boardman.

An eight and a half acre site on Crossroads Drive, just north of East Western Reserve Road, will be the new home of The Orthopaedic Surgery Center, which will relocate from its facility on Market Street at Akron Children’s Hospital.

The $7 million, 13,000 square foot center will be larger and more modern.

“It’s going to have state of the art equipment which is used for the surgical procedures that we perform. It’s going to have state of the art infection control and it’s going to have a more personalized private experience for the patients that are taken care of there,” said Dr. Thomas Joseph, Vice President of the OSC.

Joseph said the project is driven by the growing shift in medicine to outpatient surgery which is desired by patients who would rather recover in the comfort of their own home.

The facility will feature four operating rooms and three private overnight suites.  Dr. Joseph said the mission of the center is to provide high-quality care at a lower cost.

A grand opening for the center is anticipated before the end of 2019.
