You and your doctor may decide to have shoulder replacement surgery if you have a painful shoulder prohibiting you from performing some of the simplest of activities and a more conservative approach to care does not work. This surgery is generally for those who have severe osteoarthritis and loss of function. A HEMIARTHROPLASTY SHOULDER REPLACEMENT can reduce joint pain.

Recent less invasive surgery and procedural and technological advances have revolutionized joint replacement surgery. A Hemiarthroplasty Shoulder Replacement is a widely-accepted alternative for individuals considering traditional inpatient shoulder replacement surgery. Data shows a higher satisfaction when compared to the same procedure done in an inpatient setting. Reports also go further to state better pain management, quicker rehabilitation, rapid return to activities and less risk of hospital acquired infections. This option may provide significant cost savings to the patient, while receiving the high quality and efficiency of an outpatient surgery center.

THE SURGERY: On the day of surgery, the patient will arrive 1 – 1.5 hours ahead of time. The surgical procedure will take 1– 1.5 hours and then will remain in recovery care for another 2 – 3 hours to be monitored.  The Shoulder Technique Animation will illustrate how the surgeon may fix the damaged shoulder.

AFTER SURGERY: The patient will then be discharged to go home. To control pain post operatively and for the first few days following, an advanced, proven pain management protocol referred to as “multi-modal pain control” will assist with adequate pain relief.

At home, home health skilled nursing and therapy protocols will be followed.
